Thursday 13 August 2009 - Hobgoblin, Brighton, England, UK

Comments: A contributor to the officialdamned.com message board wrote "Ever imagined yourself being in a pub when the advertised band pulls out and The Damned happened to be there and available to fill in? Well that's exactly what happened to me last night when I went to Brighton's Hobgoblin to see Monty's other band the Sumerian Kings! I say The Damned, it was a kind of Damned reserves, but very enjoyable and unexpected nonetheless. Apparently, Pinch isn't flying out from the US for the Czech Republic gig coming up so Cap, Monty and Stu have been rehearsing with Dave Berk and were in attendance for the Sumerian Kings gig with whom Monty was due to play. The singer and saxaphone player didn't show up, so a hastily arranged set was knocked up and following a soundcheck of 'New Rose' and 'Wait For The Blackout' (both excellent - I like Dave Berk's drumming!), the 4 piece Damned (Captain on vocals) went on to play 'Neat Neat Neat', 'Antipope', 'Jet Boy Jet Girl' and 'New Rose' (they didn't know any others apparently!) in front of about 20-30 people. I went home a happy man!".

Comments: No support. A long introduction before the mainset from friend of the band, Roy (aka Captain Barrington White of The Dr Spacetoad Experience), with Dave Vanian and Captain Sensible arriving on stage with brooms to sweep the stage. 'Break on Thro' was included in 'Neat Neat Neat', and there was a long interlude prior to 'Dark Asteroid' talking about Michael Jackson which morphed into mention of Gary Glitter and then a short rendition of 'Rock 'N Roll'. More from Roy before the encore, and he stayed on stage to sing and dance along until the end.

Comments: Cornbury Music Festival. The Damned played the Second Stage, headlining for Teddy Thompson, Peter Green & Friends, Shortwave Set, Kingsize 5, Love Trousers. Out of doors performance with the majority of the audience (ie those not under the stage canvas) in the pissing rain. 'Smash It Up' should have finished the set but The Damned were given more time, hence the additional encore numbers. For the record, intended performers on other stages were... Main Stage - Scouting For Girls, Sharleen Spiteri, Magic Numbers, Dodgy, Boy Least Likely To, Relay... Comments: Red List Live Festival. CANCELLED - The Red List Live website stated... 'We are deeply saddened to announce that Red List Live have taken the tough decision to postpone our first festival until 2010. This is due to a number of factors, including the high risk of holding an event in the current economic climate, and the impact of increased capacity at established local festivals such as The Hop Farm'.

Sunday 14 June 2009 - Opera House, Bournemouth, England, UK

Comments: CANCELLED - The following message appearing on The Damned's official website... 'Due to unforeseen circumstances with the promoter, and beyond the control of The Damned, the show on Sunday at Bournemouth Opera House has been cancelled'. Some advertising also showed this event as intended for the O2 Academy, Bournemouth. As the venue changed hands in July (Academy Music Group taking it over), my 'hunch' is that it was actually intended as an O2 gig but a protracted takeover meant cancellation? Intended support from Henry Cluney and The Alarm.

The band left the stage to near silence. They returned, Captain apologised and said that he appreciated the final song wasn't everyones cup of tea and hoped that a few older songs would make up for it'. Apparently 'Smash It Up part 2' fell apart when Magic Dave (roadie) drummed along side Pinch and Captain's guitar went a bit off track... the band eventually walking off stage without finishing the song.
