The Damned: Live Performances - 1984
The list of shows for 1984 should be considered as 'work in progress'.
Sunday 30 December 1984 - LondonComments: This date appeared in the press as 'Tickets available for London concerts', but is assumed have been cancelled or unconfirmed.
Saturday 22 December 1984 - former Decca records warehouse, South LondonComments: See Naz Nomad & The Nightmares.
Sunday 28 October 1984 - LondonComments: This date appeared in the press as 'Tickets available for London concerts', but is assumed have been cancelled or unconfirmed.
Thursday 11 October 1984 - Mayfair, NewcastleComments: Damned show that was due to take place with Hanoi Rocks and The Sid Presley Experience in support, The Damned apparently pulling out because of the Captain Sensible leaving the band 'saga'. The gig went ahead with Hanoi Rocks headlining and Johnny Thunders in support.
Wednesday 3 October 1984 - Tyne Tees Studios, Newcastle
Set: Grimly Fiendish, Shadow Of Love, Beat Girl, Smash It Up (part 2 only), I Feel Alright.
Comments: The Damned appeared on the Series 3 opener of Channel 4 TV's 'The Tube' music programme, playing to a live audience. Filmed on the previous Wednesday, this programme was first aired on Friday 5 October, however, though 5 tracks were recorded only 'Smash It Up' was actually aired.
Sunday 30 September 1984 - LondonComments: This date appeared in the press as 'Tickets available for London concerts', but must have been cancelled or unconfirmed. The 28 October date then appeared instead.
? September 1984 - Barrowland Ballroom, GlasgowComments: Intended but cancelled show.
Friday 24 August 1984 - Nostell Priory, Nostell
Set: Love Song, Ignite, Disco Man, Wait For The Blackout, Stranger On The Town, Born To Kill, Do The Blitz, Nasty, Limit Club, Melody Lee, Neat Neat Neat, Looking At You. encore 1 - Smash It Up, Noise Noise Noise, New Rose, We Love You. encore 2 - Love Song, Thanks For The Night, Pretty Vacant.
Comments: Nostell Priory 4-day music fetival. Also due to appear on the Friday - Dr & The Medics, Black Angels, Mitch, Earl Okin. However, it seems that the actual support was from Chelsea and Dr & The Medics - the published performance times being Chelsea (19:10), Dr & The Medics (20:30) and The Damned (21:30). Roman Jugg played on lead guitar although nothing official had been announced at the time about Captain Sensible leaving the band. There have been a number of spectators that indicated that Captain Sensible was there, in the backstage area... something he has apparently strenuously denied over the years.
Saturday 4 August 1984 - Brockwell Park, London
Set: Love Song, Wait For The Blackout, Thanks For The Night, Disco Man, Stranger On The Town, Limit Club, Neat Neat Neat, Noise Noise Noise, Smash It Up, Looking At You, New Rose, Hippy Hippy Shake. encore - Anarchy in the UK, Love Song, Nasty.
Comments: Free gig. GLC Festival. The programme for this festival showed intended band playing times as - The Opposition [12:30-13:00], Pleasure & The Beast [13:15-13:45], Hi Jinks [14:00-14:30], Brilliant [14:45-15:15], Joolz [15:15-15:30], New Model Army [15:30-16:00], The Fall [16:15-17:00], Strawberry Switchblade [17:10-17:40], Spear Of Destiny [17:45-18:30], Benjamin Zephaniah [18:30-19:00], The Damned [19:00-20:00]. Captains Sensible's last gig with The Damned (for the moment).
Saturday 4 August 1984 - unknown locationSet: Stranger On The Town, Limit Club, Smash It Up (parts 1 and 2).
Comments: Not a live gig - but still a live appearance, this session was recorded for the BBC Radio 1 Saturday Live Show. All tracks from this session would later be made commercially available to purchase.

Tuesday 8 May 1984 - The Rusty Nail, Sunderland, MassachusettsComments: A gig ticket for 8 May shows The Damned to play The Rusty Nail. Though there is no day or year shown on the ticket, process of elimination suggests it related to a planned show from an aborted tour (it is known that a US tour that did not come to fruition was planned for some time after March 1984).
Tuesday 13 March 1984 - The Venue, Victoria, LondonComments: See The Phantom Chords.
Saturday 10 March 1984 - Eldorado, Paris, France
Set: unknown.
Comments: Advertised in New Wave Magazine of 1984... but whether the show went ahead or not is uncertain at this time. However, is this why the first intended Phantom Chords gig (12 March 1984) was cancelled - because The Damned were in France?
Monday 30 January 1984 - Gossips, Soho, LondonComments: See Naz Nomad & The Nightmares.
Monday 9 January 1984 - Gossips, Soho, LondonComments: See Naz Nomad & The Nightmares.
Tuesday 3 January 1984 - College Of Further Education, Oxford
Set: There Ain't No Sanity Clause, Disco Man, Ignite, Stranger On The Town, Wait For The Blackout, Do The Blitz, Melody Lee, Born To Kill, Love Song, Neat Neat Neat, Looking At You. encore 1 - Smash It Up, Noise Noise Noise, New Rose. encore 2 - Hippy Hippy Shake, I Feel Alright, We Love You. encore 3 - I Just Can't Be Happy Today, Love Song.
Comments: It is possible that 'I Feel The Pain' was played - preceding 'Born To Kill'.
