Captain Sensible: Solo & Beyond... (1991)

This listing of appearances by Captain Sensible for 1991, outside of The Damned, should be considered as 'work in progress'.

* (as) Captain Sensible / Captain Sensible & The Family Butcher (band comprising Captain Sensible (guitar/vocals), Paul Gray (bass), ????)

Sunday 25 August 1991 - Mean Fiddler Stage, Reading Festival

Set: New Rose, A Riot On Eastbourne Pier, Neat Neat Neat, Exploding Heads And Teapots, Looking At You, Glad It's All Over, Smash It Up (part 2 only).

Comments: Appearance played as Captain Sensible & The Family Butcher. Introduced incorrectly by the compere as Captain Sensible "with his new band The Phantom Chords". The audio bootleg that the above set was taken from had a flaw between 'Glad It's All Over' and 'Smash It Up' - it is possible that there was an encore break at this point and that the bootleg was just 'stitched together' (removing a period of on stage inactivity).

Sunday 18 August 1991 - The Arts Centre, Salisbury

Set: unknown.

Comments: Advertising from the time indicates support as Strange The Butcher and The Magnificent.

Saturday 17 August 1991 - The Arts Centre, Colchester

Set: unknown.

Comments: Shows as intended support to Strange The Butcher.

Friday 1 February 1991 - The Mean Fiddler, London

Set: unknown.

Comments: Billed as Captain Sensible & The Family Butcher (featuring Paul Gray). Some advertising from the time showed intended support as 'Skipp Fluff', and some as 'Yellow Darkness'.

Thursday 17 January 1991 - The Academy, Plymouth

Comments: Advertised support was 'Our Fate and CDS. A contributor to this site has advised that this gig, rescheduled from 9 December 1990, was also subsequently CANCELLED.

Friday 11 January 1991 - Plaza, Exeter

Set: Hey Joe, New Rose, The Turkey Song excerpt, A Riot On Eastbourne Pier, Substitute, Glad It's All Over, Happy Talk, Looking At You, Neat Neat Neat, Smash It Up (parts 1 and 2), Revolution Now, Wild Thing. encore - Daytripper, Love Song, blues improvisation, Anarchy In The UK.

Tuesday 8 January 1991 - Busby's, Bristol

Set: New Rose, A Riot On Eastbourne Pier, Substitute, Revolution Now, Glad It's All Over, Smash It Up, Looking At You, Coward Of Treason Cove, Neat Neat Neat, Daytripper, Love Song, Wot, Anarchy In The UK.

Comments: Show billed as Captain Sensible and The Family Butcher. Support from Three Little Piggies and Lux. 'Daytripper' apparently played as Gray Tripper. A blues jam is reported to have been played between 'Daytripper' and 'Love Song'.

Friday 4 January 1991 - The Waterfront, Norwich

Set: unknown.
